While the Guyana Government previously disclosed that talks were ongoing, Director-General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) Retired Lt. Col. Egbert Field said no discussions were held with his organization and a formal application is yet to be made.

He however welcomed  the announcement and said the GCCA stands ready to work as swiftly as possible to ensure that the venture is a success for both the people of Guyana and the United States.

This new route announced by United joins nonstop flights to more than 160 destinations from Houston.

United says it offers more flights from Houston to more destinations than any other airline and this winter, it will increase capacity by nearly 10 per cent, flying to more than double the number of cities from Houston than all other airlines combined.

Field is confident that the application, once made can be processed and finalized within one to three months.

“I am happy that they have Guyana in their focus. I must say that it will be of tremendous help to Guyana in moving passengers. At this time we are deficient when it comes to uplift of passengers in and out of Georgetown.

“This will certainly help in moving the increasing number of passenger which Guyana faces because of the economic development and activities which is going on to make Guyana more attractive, whether it be in tourism or business,” Field said during a telephone interview on Thursday.
