ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Antigua-based inter-regional airline, LIAT, says it has been forced to cancel several schedule flights “in the coming weeks” due to unscheduled maintenance issues.
In a statement, the cash-strapped airline said the maintenance issues have caused LIAT to suspend its current schedule “as it works to resolve the issues and put its aircraft back into schedule.
“However, due to logistical and supply chain issues, the airline does not have a concrete deadline for the return to its regular schedule. Therefore several flights in the coming weeks have been cancelled,” the airline said.
LIAT, which is owned by the governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica, has been under Administration since July 24, 2020, said it acknowledges that the disruption will cause “a major convenience to its customers at this time” but insisted that “the safety of our passengers, crew and ground staff are of the utmost importance”.
LIAT said it is exploring all available options to assist passengers and that it is “also working diligently to expedite the maintenance process so the airline can resume its regular service which is essential to connectivity in the region”.
