Jamaican Surf Champ Elishama Beckford Signs With Quiksilver
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The blue waves of Bull Bay have produced a new kind of rebel. Elishama “Shama” Beckford, Jamaica’s reigning national surfing champion, has officially signed a partnership deal with global surf giant Quiksilver, marking a historic moment for Caribbean surfing.
Elishama “Shama” Beckford.Beckford, who represented Jamaica at the World Surfing Games in El Salvador last year, joins a roster of over 70 elite athletes, including Championship Tour stars Kanoa Igarashi, Griffin Colapinto, and Jackson Bunch.
He now stands alongside snowboarding legend Travis Rice and freestyle skier Sammy Carlson as part of the Quiksilver family.
For a kid from Bull Bay, the leap is nothing short of a dream realised.
“Growing up surfing in Jamaica, I never imagined that one day I would be joining a brand with the history and influence of Quiksilver,” Beckford said. “This partnership means more than just sponsorship; it’s recognition of years of dedication, sacrifice, and belief in a dream. I’m proud to carry the Jamaican flag wherever I go to compete and to show the world that our island has incredible surfing talent.”
But Beckford’s vision extends beyond his own career. The national champion wants to build a legacy.
“My goal has always been bigger than personal success; I want to help build the future of surfing in Jamaica and create more opportunities for young surfers coming up behind me,” he added. “Having the support of a globally recognised brand is just more proof that Jamaica has a spark to add to the world of surfing.”
Quiksilver’s Global General Manager, Josh February, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the unique energy Beckford brings to the table.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Shama to the Quiksilver family. As one of Jamaica’s inspiring surf talents, he not only represents the next generation of athletes but also brings the unique energy and spirit of the Caribbean to our global surfing community,” February said. “What makes this partnership especially meaningful is our shared passion for the ocean, surf culture, and inspiring future generations of surfers around the world.”
The partnership kicks into high gear on June 17th with the launch of the first-ever Quiksilver Bob Marley Collection, which will be fully represented by Beckford himself.
