BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Barbados Tridents are the hottest team in the Caribbean Premier League right now after dismantling the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets to record their fourth straight win here on Sunday.
Brandon King scored an unbeaten 44 to lead the Tridents’ run chase.Before a massive home crowd at Kensington Oval, the Tridents made light work of the Amazon Warriors’ batting by bowling them out for their lowest total of the season so far – a paltry 99 in 18.1 overs.
Brandon King then scored an unbeaten 44 at the top of the order and Shadrack Descarte bludgeoned 32 off just 20 deliveries to see the home side to a predictable win at Kensington Oval as they reached 100 for four in 14.5 overs.
Off spinner AM Ghazanfar was the star of the Trident’s bowling attack, with his three wickets in the third over leaving the Amazon Warriors in complete despair.
He began by having Mavendra Dindyal stumped with the third ball and followed up by having the usually dependable Shai Hope caught at silly mid on two balls later, and then dismissed Shimron Hetmyer for a first ball duck to leave them wobbling at 15 for three.
And when George Linde joined in the action by accounting for the wickets of Glen Phillips for 24 and Dwaine Pretorius with successive deliveries in the eighth over, the Amazon Warriors were reeling on 38 for five.
It was a position they would not recover from, as pacer Johann Layne, playing in his first match of the season, ran through the middle order by dismissing Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Quentin Sampson and Ronaldo Alimohamed for a first-ball duck to leave them in further distress at 67 for eight.
Ghazanfar, who was named Player-of-the-Match, finished with 3-17, Layne took 3-14 and Linde 2-13.
King then played a responsible innings that required 42 balls to see the home side to a relatively easy victory.
The Tridents lost the wickets of Zachary Carter, Quinton de Kock and Sherfane Rutherford along the way, but a 41-run partnership with Descarte for the fourth wicket sealed the deal.
King hit three fours and two sixes in his unbeaten knock, while Descarte thumped three sixes and two fours to hurry the proceedings before he became the second of Miraz’s two wickets with the outcome already decided.
