The Florida Department of Elder Affairs Recognizes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.,– The Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) is hosting a statewide virtual event on Thursday, June 18 in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). The purpose of the WEAAD webinar is to build safer communities for Florida’s 5.5 million older adults and to encourage attendees to recognize elder abuse and how to report abuse to authorities.

June is World Elder Abuse Awareness Month.  Throughout the month, government agencies, businesses, and organizations sponsor events to unite communities, seniors, caregivers, governments, and the private sector to prevent the mistreatment of and violence against older people.   

Sunshine State Games Karate and Dominoes Provided Good Start for 2020

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 2020 Sunshine State Games Calendar of Events was off to a promising start with 147 athletes competing at the Exactech Arena in Gainesville on Sunday, March 8.  While Karate has been a part of the Sunshine State Games since 2001, participation numbers had been on the decrease over the last few years.

Information Regarding Economic Impact Payments for Social Security and SSI Beneficiaries with Representative Payees, and People Living in U.S. Territories

The Social Security Administration issued an update today about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments (EIP) to certain groups of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries.  Beneficiaries who have their regular monthly payments managed for them by another person, called a representative payee, will begin receiving their EIPs from the IRS in late May.
