CARICOM Congratulates Trinidad and Tobago on 61st Independence Anniversary

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Thursday congratulated    the Government and People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on    the celebration of its 61st Anniversary of Independence.

tttflags“The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago continues to make its mark of excellence globally through its vibrant and dynamic contribution, particularly in the fields of music, art and sports. The designation of  August 11 by the United Nations as World Steelpan Day, exemplifies the far-reaching impact of Trinidad and Tobago on the cultural enrichment of humanity,” the regional body said in a statement.

‘“Of marked significance to our Region is the imminent Presidency of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, yet another milestone in the country’s legacy.”

CARICOM also pointed to the role played by the twin island republic in the regional integration movement, as one of the original signatories to the Treaty of Chaguaramas and the birthplace of the Caribbean Community. 

“We also recall the heartwarming hospitality as hosts of our recent 50th Anniversary celebratory activities and the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, in July 2023.”

“Please accept wishes for continued progress, peace and prosperity of the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago,” the release stated.
