One Killed, Two Injured as Anguilla Summer Festival Comes to an End
THE VALLEY, Anguilla – Police says they believe that the shooting incident that occurred on Sunday night , in which one person was killed and two others injured, may have involved foreign nationals.
In a statement the Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) said that the incident occurred near the Sandy Ground Pond two miles from the coast of Sandy Ground Beach on Anguilla’s main island and can only be reached by boat.
“The RAPF can confirm a shooting incident occurred at…around 9:40 pm…Tragically, one person is deceased, and two others are currently receiving medical attention for gunshot wounds.
“Our officers responded quickly, and the scene is now cordoned off as investigations continue. We want to assure the public that this appears to be a targeted incident involving individuals not from Anguilla,” the RAPF said in its statemen, without providing any further information regarding the identity of those killed and injured.
The incident coincided with the closing ceremony of the 2024 Anguilla Summer Festival with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Band on display.
“Our colleagues from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Steel Orchestra has also graced patrons with their musical talents. Thank you all for your cooperation and support throughout the festival. Let’s close it out on a high note and continue to enjoy responsibly,” the RAPF had said in a separate statement prior to the shooting incident.
In its latest statement, the RAPF said it is urging persons with information to “contact us immediately” adding “we assure the community that all information provided will be handled with the utmost confidentiality. The safety and security of Anguilla’s residents and visitors remain our top priority.”
