United Way of Broward County and Publix Super Markets Distribute $30,000 Worth of Gift Cards to Teacher of the Year Nominees

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Saturday, February 12thUnited Way of Broward County partnered with Publix Super Markets to distribute more than 1500 Publix gift cards, totaling $30,700, to Broward County Public School Teacher of the Year Nominees during the “Tools for Teachers of the Year” event.

During the drive-thru event at United Way of Broward County’s Ansin Building, 166 Teacher of the Year Nominees (140 Title 1 Elementary & Middle School teachers plus 26 Title I eligible High Schools and Exceptional Learning Centers), were gifted $180 in gift cards each to purchase school supplies for their classrooms.  Kathleen Cannon, President/CEO of United Way of Broward County, Publix associates and United Way of Broward County staff and volunteers were on-site to personally thank the Teacher of the Year Nominees for their continued hard work and dedication.  

As part of this “Tools for Teachers” campaign, Publix Super Markets collected the funds from generous customers and associates, which are then turned into gift cards for selected nonprofit organizations including United Way of Broward County.
