Broward Health Coral Springs Advances Robotic Excellence

CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA – Broward Health Coral Springs has achieved several milestones, establishing the hospital as a leader in robotic innovation and advanced patient care.

roboticn“We are proud of the advancements we’ve made in technology, the systems we have in place and our enhanced physician training, all designed to achieve excellence in robotic surgery and meet the growing needs of our local community,” said Kristen Bowman, CEO of Broward Health Coral Springs.

Robotic Excellence: Expanding Access and Innovation

Broward Health Coral Springs is the first hospital in South Florida with two robotic systems dedicated to urology, Aquablation® and the new HYDROS™ Robotic System, while also becoming the region’s only Epicenter for da Vinci® colorectal surgery. The hospital further expanded its capabilities this year with the addition of the da Vinci 5®, the fourth and most advanced generation of Intuitive’s robotic platform and one of four da Vinci systems now in place at Broward Health Coral Springs.

Together, these milestones acknowledge the hospital’s dedication to enhancing patient care, expanding physician education, and offering the community timely access to the latest minimally invasive therapies.

Epicenter for da Vinci® Colorectal Surgery

Broward Health Coral Springs is also now designated as the only Epicenter for da Vinci colorectal surgery in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Through this program, surgeons nationwide can observe advanced robotic procedures in real-time, either in person or remotely, under the guidance of Joseph Corallo, M.D., vice chief of staff and director of minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery at Broward Health Coral Springs.

“As an Epicenter, Broward Health Coral Springs is shaping the future of minimally invasive colorectal surgery by mentoring surgeons nationwide,” said Dr. Corallo. “Our patients benefit daily from these innovations, with safer procedures, less pain and quicker recoveries.”

HYDROS™ Robotic System: Next-Generation Aquablation

The 350th Aquablation procedure for enlarged prostates at Broward Health Coral Springs highlights a major milestone in advanced urologic care. Aquablation therapy is a robotic waterjet treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. This condition affects millions of men over 50 years of age and often results in severe urinary symptoms and reduced quality of life. The therapy provides substantial relief while minimizing side effects that are common with traditional surgery.

In June 2025, the hospital introduced the HYDROS™ Robotic System, the most advanced generation of Aquablation technology. HYDROS improves efficiency, enhances the experience for surgeons and staff and delivers more accurate, consistent treatment planning for better clinical outcomes.

“Broward Health Coral Springs is leading in advanced care for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia,” said Azeem Sachedina, M.D., a urologist at Broward Health Coral Springs. “By expanding to two urology-dedicated robotic systems, we’re ensuring patients have timely access to the latest therapies.”

Among the program’s physicians, Dr. Sachedina was the first in Broward County to reach 100 Aquablation cases, underscoring the hospital’s depth of expertise in robotic urologic care.

da Vinci 5®: Transforming Surgery Across Specialties

Earlier this year, Broward Health Coral Springs introduced the da Vinci 5® Surgical System, the fifth generation of Intuitive’s robotic platform. Featuring force feedback technology, 10,000 times more computing power, optimized 3DHD visualization and ergonomic surgeon consoles, the da Vinci 5® delivers greater precision and improved outcomes.

The system is already being applied across gynecology, urology, thoracic and general surgery, while also enhancing physician training through teaching consoles, remote guidance and real-time feedback. With four da Vinci systems now in place, Broward Health Coral Springs continues to invest in the most advanced surgical technologies to ensure faster recovery, fewer complications and improved patient experiences.

“Robotic technology is transforming surgery, and Broward Health Coral Springs is at the forefront,” Bowman said. “The da Vinci 5 and HYDROS platforms represent the future of care, smarter, safer and more personalized for our patients.”

Nearly 15 Years of Robotic Leadership

Since launching its robotic surgery program nearly 15 years ago, Broward Health Coral Springs has completed more than 6,700 robotic-assisted procedures across gynecology, thoracic, general, colorectal and urology specialties. With a growing list of robotic systems and an Epicenter designation, Broward Health Coral Springs is setting new standards in surgical excellence in South Florida and beyond.
