Jamaica to Host ClimSA Global Forum Next Week
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Issues relating to climate change and its impact on sustainable adaptation programmes will be among matters discussed at the fourth annual Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) Global Forum that gets underway in Jamaica on Monday next week.
The four-day event will be held under the theme “Improving Climate Services for Sustainable Adaptation Actions: Engagement with End-Users and Policymakers,” and highlights the importance of collaboration between climate services leaders, experts, stakeholders, and end-users to address critical challenges related to climate resilience and sustainable development.
The forum is being oganised under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) Intra-ACP Climate Services and Related Applications Programme and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), in partnership with the Jamaica government as well as the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (JMS) and the Barbados-based Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH).
The event is being funded by the European Union and will bring together public and private sector leaders, experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the globe to discuss and address the pressing issues related to climate services and their impact on sustainable adaptation actions.
The organisers said specifically, the forum aims to enhance climate services by engaging with end-users and policymakers, with the primary objective of improving the utility and benefits of these applications based on user feedback.
“This effort ultimately seeks to enhance regional resilience in OACPS countries vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. It underscores the significance of working with climate-sensitive sectors to ensure effective adaptation measures are implemented.
“As the 79 member states of the OACPS are among the most vulnerable countries to climate-related hazards, we will continue to face challenges posed by climate change. This forum serves as a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing insights, and exploring innovative solutions to these challenges,” they added.
