Of the countless hit songs Dennis Brown recorded, If I Had The World ranks among the best for Deleon "Jubba" White. Recently, he covered the classic lovers rock track which was originally released in 1981.

deljubbaDeleon "Jubba" WhiteThe Oregon-based drummer/singer produced his version for his White Stone Productions company. A video to  support the song was released in February to mark Brown's 67th birthday.

"It's definitely one of my favorite songs from Dennis Brown. Love is lovely and it’s a great love song by a great artist," said Jubba, who adds that he went for a fresh feel.

"I did a few things different but they came naturally. I always just allow the vibe to progress naturally during creative processes.

The main difference is with the addition of the violin," he explained.

Brown, who died in July, 1999 at age 42, is regarded as the Crown Prince of Reggae. His smooth vocal style drove hit songs rated among the music's finest.

If I Had The World is from Foul Play, one of three albums he recorded for A&M Records and producer Joe Gibbs.

White is drummer/vocalist for Dubtonic Kru, a band he formed with bass guitarist Strickland Stone 20 years ago. They recorded and toured with a number of artists including roots-reggae legends Max Romeo and The Mighty Diamonds, before recording their own songs and performing at major festivals in the US and Europe.

He has lived in Oregon for almost 10 years, recording solo songs and producing regional acts. My Random Thoughts, White's only solo album to date, was released in 2021.
