GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Sir Ronald Sanders, says the University Council has received 27 applications for the post of Vice-Chancellor and Principal following an international recruitment process.

ronldsaThe applications were submitted in response to a widely advertised search led by a Council-appointed committee, with a closing date of April 18.

The committee will now move to the next phase, which includes reviewing submissions and shortlisting candidates.

The current Vice-Chancellor is due to demit office in July 2026 after serving for seven years.

Sir Ronald said the selection process is being conducted using the same procedures applied in appointing the current Vice-Chancellor, in keeping with established governance standards.

He noted that the appointment comes at a time of significant national transformation, as Guyana experiences rapid economic growth driven by developments in energy, infrastructure, and expanding global engagement.

Against this backdrop, he said the University of Guyana is expected to play a central role in building human capital, advancing research, promoting innovation, and supporting national and regional development.

The Council, he added, is seeking a transformational leader capable of strengthening the university’s position as a hub for research, professional training, and regional influence.

Sir Ronald said the Council remains committed to transparency and will provide updates on key stages of the process, including the announcement of shortlisted candidates and details of public lectures that will form part of the evaluation.
