West Indies Cricket 1975 World Cup Anniversary Logo Captures Prestigious ADDY Award
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — A commemorative logo created to celebrate the golden anniversary of the West Indies’ first Cricket World Cup triumph has claimed top honours at one of the advertising industry’s most prestigious competitions, proving that the region’s creative prowess matches its sporting legacy.
The emblem, designed for the 2025 Cricket West Indies / West Indies Players’ Association Awards Gala, which marked 50 years since the historic 1975 World Cup victory, received a Silver ADDY Award at the 2026 American Advertising Awards Caribbean competition.
The American Advertising Awards, widely known as the ADDYs, represent the advertising industry’s largest and most respected competition, recognising creative excellence across design, advertising, and marketing communications.
The Caribbean leg of the competition is organised by the Caribbean Advertising Federation, the first and only non-American member of the American Advertising Federation.
The June 2025 Gala, held in Barbados, celebrated the enduring legacy of West Indies cricket while paying special tribute to the trailblazing 1975 World Cup-winning squad led by captain Sir Clive Lloyd.
The anniversary logo served as the visual heartbeat of the event’s branding, masterfully blending heritage with celebration while capturing the lasting international influence of West Indies cricketers.
The Hon. Dr. Kishore Shallow, President of Cricket West Indies, emphasised that the recognition transcends mere creative achievement.
“This award reflects the profound significance of the 50th anniversary of the 1975 World Cup and its champions. It stands as a tribute not only to a historic sporting milestone but to the enduring legacy of that victorious West Indies team,” Shallow said.
“The commemorative logo developed in collaboration with Always On Creative is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when West Indian creative minds unite in pursuit of excellence. This ADDY Award is not merely symbolic. It is a testament to collaboration, imagination, and regional pride.”
Shallow extended special commendation to the creative team behind the design: “I wish to specially commend graphic designer Sergio Charles, along with Tashida Callender, Jamal Slocombe, and La Donna Williams, for their collective dedication and attention to detail in executing this critical element of the undertaking. Their work alongside the planning committee has produced an icon that will endure and be proudly utilised for years to come.”
The Gala was jointly chaired by Cricket West Indies Independent Director Debra Coryat-Patton and WIPA Secretary Wayne Lewis.
For lead designer Sergio Charles, co-founder and senior graphic designer at Always On Creative, the project represented a deeply personal labour of love.
“As an ardent West Indies cricket supporter, I welcomed the opportunity to contribute to a project that honours such a defining moment in our sporting history,” Charles said. “The 1975 World Cup victory remains a source of immense pride for the region, and it was a privilege to help visually capture that legacy through this commemorative mark. This recognition also affirms the strength and potential of Caribbean creative talent.”
The American Advertising Awards recognise outstanding creative work across the advertising industry and serve as the first stage of a three-tier competition honouring excellence at local, regional, and national levels, placing Caribbean creativity on an international stage alongside the best in the business.
