Oblique Seville and Shericka Jackson Claim 100m Titles at National Championships

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Oblique Seville and Shericka Jackson both clocked season’s best times on their way to capturing gold in the men and women’s 100m events respectively at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Championships on Friday.

jaasevillOblique Seville won the 100m at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association National Championships in a world-leading time of 9.82 seconds.Competing at the National Stadium, Seville, the reigning World Champion, crossed the finish line in 9.82 seconds to claim his first-ever national title.

With his performance, Seville replaced US collegiate champion Kayinsola Ajayi as the world leader, eclipsing the young Nigerian’s time of 9.84 seconds at the recent NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships.

Gary Card, 19, was second in a national Under-20 record of 9.93 seconds, while Ackeem Blake captured bronze in a season’s best 9.94 seconds.

Card’s time broke the previous junior record of 9.99 seconds set by Bouwahjgie Nkrumie in 2023 and is joint third best all-time with American Christian Miller.

Meanwhile, Jackson ran her fastest time in three years to win the women’s equivalent in 10.81 seconds and claim her fourth national 100m title and first since 2024.

Jackson made up for a sluggish start to catch the fast-starting defending champion Tina Clayton and beat her on the finish line. Clayton was second in 10.85 seconds, while Jonelle Smith lowered her personal best to 10.94 seconds for third.

Jackson’s winning time was the third-fastest of the year, trailing only the 10.63 seconds by Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands and the 10.80 seconds by Jamaican Shenese Walker.
