Jamaica's Fraser McConnell Propelled to Second Place After Nitrocross Opening Weekend

RICHMOND, Virginia – Jamaica’s Fraser McConnell delivered an impressive performance in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Nitrocross season at Richmond Raceway recently, propelling himself into second place in the overall championship standings.

frasermmFraser McConnellMcConnell kicked off the weekend with solid results, clinching a third-place finish in Round 1. For the second round, he shined in the qualifiers, securing the top spot and dominating the semi-final to earn pole position for the final race.

In last Sunday’s final, McConnell took control early, leading the race into turn three. However, a dramatic incident behind him caused him to lose his racing line after a half-spin, giving his rival, Kevin Eriksson, the opportunity to seize the lead.

McConnell pushed hard, battling Eriksson for six intense laps. Despite constant pressure, he ultimately crossed the finish line in second place, comfortably ahead of third-placed Viktor Vranckx. Robin Larsson, Saturday’s winner, finished fourth.

“We had a great start, leading into turn two. But by turn three, I tried to stay clean and then got spun around. It’s frustrating,” McConnell shared after the race. “Still, I’m proud of my team. We may have missed the top spot, but we’re in a strong position with plenty of racing ahead.”

McConnell now sits on 107 points in the standings, trailing Eriksson by just 11 points and leading defending champion Larsson by four. The championship continues with Rounds 3 and 4 in Utah on October 5 and 6.
