Hasely Crawford Stadium to undergo repairs in preparation for Commonwealth Youth Games

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Repair works will begin soon at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in preparation for the country hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in August.

stadium1The Ministry of Sport and Community Development stated in a press release on Thursday that the repairs at the stadium in Mucurapo, which will intensify at the end of February, were part of the construction works at several sporting facilities across the nation.

“During this quarter of the fiscal year, the Hasely Crawford Stadium will be given priority since the athletics component of the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023 will be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium later this year,” the ministry said.

The twin-island republic will host CYG between August 4 and 11, with three sporting disciplines being hosted in Trinidad and four sporting disciplines being hosted in Tobago. Athletics, swimming, and cycling are scheduled to take place in Trinidad, while rugby, netball, beach volleyball, and the triathlon event will take place in Tobago.

Construction works are also in progress at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, the procurement process is well on the way for the Ato Boldon Stadium, the scope of works is being confirmed for the Mannie Ramjohn and Larry Gomes Stadia, and Skinner Park is scheduled to be completed and delivered before the end of January, the ministry said.
