Grenada's Sports Minister Praises ‘Resilient’ Bronze Medalist Lindon Victor

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – Sports Minister Ron Redhead has praised Lindon Victor for his “spirit of resilience” after the Grenadian snatched bronze in the decathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last week.

“It is a heartening moment for Grenada and with much pride I applaud Lindon Victor on his performance at the World Championship 2023 in Budapest, Hungary,” said Redhead.

“The perseverance and level of tenacity that he has demonstrated as a decathlete and now World Athletics Championship bronze medalist is worth celebrating.

“He never gave up on his dream after years of trying to attain a medal of such magnitude. He is certainly a role model in every sense of the word with his spirit of resilience.”

The medal was the first World Championship honor for Victor, who is the reigning double Commonwealth Games champion, after successes in Gold Coast and Birmingham.

In Budapest, Victor produced outstanding performances in several events, including the discus where he measured 54.97 and the javelin throw where he threw 68.05.

“I just think it was all the events that came together,” Victor said.

“I wouldn’t pinpoint one event to say it was the discus – I’m a 55-metre discus thrower. I was just steady the whole way, just solid events and it ended up just being a big score. I think that’s the nature of the decathlon.”

Redhead also hailed the efforts of Anderson Peters who failed to medal in the decathlon, and former World and Olympic champion Kirani James who also came up short in the men’s 400 meters.
