MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and other officials commemorated COVID-19 victims on Oct. 13 at a new memorial to coronavirus victims at Simonhoff Park in Liberty City.

(Photos by Ryan Holloway)As part of the ceremony, Chairwoman Edmonson and other attendees wrote the names of lost loved ones on some of the 500 new coroplast tombstones that were erected at the park to represent those who have died from the coronavirus.
“Today we come together to honor the memories of the thousands of people in our community who have tragically lost their lives to this virus as we continue to work to stop the spread of the disease so that not one more name is added to the list of victims,” Chairwoman Edmonson said.
More than 15,000 people in Florida have died of COVID-19, including more than 3,000 in Miami-Dade County.
The memorial project was the result of a partnership between the Circle of Brotherhood, Chairwoman Edmonson, Congresswoman Wilson and other elected officials. Members of the public who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 are invited to add their names to the coroplast tombstones.
