Brazil and Antigua Sign Air Services Agreement

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Antigua and Barbuda and Brazil have signed an air service agreement as the two countries seek to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.

celembasyPrime Minister Gaston Browne and Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the eighth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) that ended here on Friday night.

A statement by the Antigua and Antigua noted that the agreement will pave the way for further economic cooperation between the two countries through trade and investment.

It quoted President Lula as saying that Brazil will reopen its embassy in St. John’s ensuring a commitment to deepening relations between the countries.

Prime Minister Browne in welcoming the decision by Brazil to re-open its embassy, said that St. John’s  is also seeking to establish a presence in Brazil.

During the brief meeting, Prime Minister Browne used the occasion to request support and extended an invitation to Brazil to attend the fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to be held in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27-30 this year.
