Rich Kid is Determined to Show That Being Religious Can Be a Part of Dancehall

Dancehall music has a tradition of hip dance moves that complement hit songs by top acts like Beenie Man and Buju Banton. Think about the Bogle and World Dance.

rickkidsRich KidOn Dwellings of The Most High (aka Jesus Dance), Rich Kid goes even further. A committed Christian, the Toronto-based deejay is determined to show that being religious is no deterrent to having fun.

"The dance symbolizes a trend and reveals hidden truths. According to non-Biblical manuscripts, Jesus once joined a procession where he ignited the herb, enjoyed the finest wine, and mesmerized the audience with his captivating dance moves," said Rich Kid, who is originally from Portmore in Jamaica.

'Jesus Dance', which features singer Nadine Dillions, was released on August 4 by Cash Global Records Entertainment, Rich Kid's company.

It encompasses five moves --- Holy Feet, Angel Wave, Devil Dig, Lighting Clap and Righteous Step, and is geared at Christian and secular audiences.

Rich Kid started his recording career in the late 1990s, a time when the frenetic moves of charismatic dancer Bogle entranced dancehall and hip hop fans.

Aware of the impact dancers like Bogle, Ice and Ding Dong have on dancehall culture, he and his team recently launched the Jesus Dance Challenge on social media, to help promote Dwellings of The Most High.

Rich Kid sees nothing wrong with making a joyful noise unto the Lord with dancehall rhythms.

"Music knows no boundaries, where genres and melodies soar freely. Each person's joyful expression creates its own unique magic," he said.
