Empress Miriam Simone Releases New Song 'Stop The Shooting', Out Now

When Empress Miriam Simone wrote Stop The Shooting, the Surinamese singer did so from personal experience. She has lost two uncles to violence and is disturbed by how accessible high-powered weapons are globally.

simoneeStop The Shooting, released in October, is produced by Paul Scott for his Sound System Club label.

“This song is inspired by different tragic situations, look at (the) war in Israel and Palestine, or Russia (and Ukraine). There are so much innocent people dying, even in our communities in South America and in Jamaica,” said Empress Miriam Simone.

She noted that Amsterdam, where she has lived for many years, is also besieged by high crime rate, resulting from “frustrations, domestic violence or sometimes financial problems.”

What inspired her most to compose Stop The Shooting were the deaths of two close relatives.

“I have been through the loss of loved ones in my life. I lost two uncles who were very close to me. These where my mother’s younger brother and my father, his brother. They have been eliminated. I will never forget the grief and pain it brought into my family, it’s hard to lose a loved one,” Empress Miriam Simone explained.

Stop The Shooting is one of the songs she has recorded recently with Scott, a London-based producer whose musical skills were nurtured at the Kingston, Jamaica studio of legendary engineer/producer Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock, during the 1980s.

He is the latest Jamaican producer Empress Miriam Simone has worked with. Previously, she collaborated with Bobby Digital and Sheldon “Calibud” Stewart.
