Team Jamaica Bickle Hands out 5K Awards

New York/CMMInc… The Awards Ceremony to announce the winners of the recently held Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) Inaugural Virtual 5K Run/Walk, was held on Sunday October 25, 2020. The organization which had since 2011 held its annual 5K Run/Walk at Baisley Pond Park, Queens New York (NY) made the transition to the virtual space this year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The ceremony was streamed live on Jamaicans.com, on TJB’s Facebook Page and its other Social Media Platforms and was hosted by Ms. Ann-Marie Grant, Director of The American Foundation of the University of the West Indies (AFUWI).

OAS Celebrate Spain’s National Day

The Chairman of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, OAS, Ambassador Audrey Marks, today joined the Ambassadors of Spain to celebrate Spain’s National Day, with the laying of a wreath at the Statue of Queen Isabell of Castile, which is located in front of the main building at the OAS. Spain, which remains one of the OAS largest benefactors, each year commemorates the encounter of the two worlds which first took place on October 12 1492 with the Spanish expedition led by Christopher Columbus.

Chairwoman Edmonson Helps Kick Off Lincoln Gardens Project

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson, along with Mayor Carlos Gimenez and other County officials, held a kickoff ceremony on Sept. 8 for the much-anticipated Lincoln Gardens project, which will include 221 units of affordable family and elderly housing and $2 million in enhancements to Marva Bannerman Park.

Miami Dolphins Announce $1 Million Dollar Commitment to Minority Owned Restaurants as Part of Foundation Food Relief Program

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – After a successful launch to the Miami Dolphins Foundation Food Relief Program on June 1, Owner Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins Foundation announced that at least $1 million will go directly to support minority owned restaurants. The year-long commitment has provided 1,000 meals each day prepared by Centerplate and local minority restaurants impacted by COVID-19 to assist those dealing with food insecurity in Miami Gardens and the surrounding communities.

Caribbean Nationals Urged to Get Counted in the United States Census

WASHINGTON DC,  - Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks has made a call for Jamaican Americans, Jamaican Green card holders, as well as Caribbean Americans in the diaspora to participate in the 2020 Census as part the continued efforts to recognize the Caribbean diaspora as a productive and energized demographic within as the USA.

Caribbean Museum Set to Open at the Westfield Broward Mall

Plantation, Florida: South Florida and the Caribbean diaspora are gearing up for the opening of the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, the new site of archives, events, resources, and information that tells the comprehensive story of Caribbean and Caribbean-American societies.  The venue is centrally located in the heart of Broward County at the Westfield Broward Mall, and is set to open during the fourth quarter of 2020. Visitors, partners, and students will enjoy interactive exhibits, informative tours, research facilities, and cultural events in the 1500 square foot museum of history, and the 800 square foot art gallery and event space.
