Hopeton Lindo and Anthony Malvo Collaborate on New Song "Mental Health Awareness'
Friends for over 40 years, Hopeton Lindo and Anthony Malvo share not only a love for music, but concern for social issues like mental health.
Hopeton Lindo They collaborate on Mental Health Awareness, a song released last October. The track's poignant message is illustrated by a video released in February.
Lindo was inspired to write Mental Health Awareness after noticing a frightening rise in persons suffering from psychological disorders.
"I see it getting more prevalent even among close friends, many suffer in silence due to the stigma attached so I decided to do something through music," he said. "I believe the right message in music can help to soothe the mind and soul."
With lyrics complete, Lindo reached out to Malvo, whom he has known since the early 1980s when they were singers on the Black Star sound system.
Malvo, known for songs like Come Back to Me (with Tiger), did not hesitate to contribute.
"When Hopeton Lindo approached me, I was impressed because it is a powerful song. Growing up in Jamaica I see a lot of mentally-ill people on the road and I would love this song to reach everyone in the world," he said.

A 2025 study by the World Health Organization showed over one billion people globally experienced mental health issues. The Mental Health America organization reports that 60 million people in the United States are similarly affected.
Lindo, who has written or co-written songs for major acts like Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks and J C Lodge, believes identifying warning signs is critical to curing this debilitating disease.
"Early detection, professional help and a helping hand from others can definitely make a difference," he stated.
