Errol Bean Releases Latest Song 'Born to Be A Champion: Hold on To Your Dreams'

In an era that has seen Jamaica produce several world-beaters, Errol Bean believes it is critical for ‘elders’ like himself to project positive vibes. That is the message behind Born to Be A Champion: Hold on To Your Dreams, his latest song.

Released on August 21, it is produced by Wayne Armond, best known as singer/guitarist with reggae band Chalice.

“One of the song’s most important messages is its encouragement to hold on to one’s dreams.

For children and youth, dreams are not merely fanciful ideas about the future; they can become important sources of motivation, identity, direction, and purpose,” said Bean.

He wrote ‘Born to Be A Champion’ as a poem of empowerment 33 years ago for his nephew Omar Dufreny, who was then 12 years-old. Eleven years ago, Armond added music to it, but it was not until one month ago that the song was finally released.

Its message, Bean points out, is timeless.

“The ability to sustain aspirations, particularly when confronted by disappointment, failure, uncertainty, peer pressure, or adversity, requires a developing understanding of oneself and a conscious commitment to one’s goals,” he said.

The emergence of gifted athletes such as Olympic champions Usain Bolt and Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce have helped motivate Jamaican youth. Their exploits inspired many of them to excel in diverse areas such as academia, entertainment and commerce.

A former pastor and teacher, Bean has helped guide youth on the right path for many years. He has been a recording artist since the late 1980s, and has released one album.

His book, Elevated Livity: Poetic Reasoning & Nuggets of Wisdom, was released in 2025.
