Canadian Dancehall Artist Jimmy Magnum Releases 'After Midnight'

It has been some time since a homegrown Canadian artist hit Jamaican charts with a hardcore dancehall song. The last time that happened was 1995 when Snow rocked dance halls with Anything For You.

Jimmy Magnum from Ontario is eager to break that drought with After Midnight. That uptempo song, released in June, is a shout-out to the ladies who get crazy in the clubs at a certain time.

It is produced by EMCE. ‘After Midnight’ is a fun song because in the clubs, after 12 am it’s when the girls go crazy. They’re having a good time, so that’s why I wrote it,” said Jimmy Magnum.

The rocking single is the deejay’s third song released for 2026. It was preceded by Kill Them and Money Maker Pt. 2.

Jimmy Magnum’s link with dancehall music is unique. A Native Canadian, his sister was married to a Jamaican sound system selector who kept weekly dances at their Ontario home.

It was through those events that he first heard the songs of 1980s kingpins like Yellowman, Brigadier Jerry, Lieutenant Stitchie, Shabba Ranks and Super Cat. 

Jimmy Magnum’s recording career started in 2008. To date, he has released many singles and one album, I Am, which came out three years ago.

Snow had a global pop/reggae hit in 1992 with Informer. Three years later, he made the Jamaican charts with Anything For You; its remix featured Jamaican stars like Buju Banton, Nadine Sutherland, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Terror Fabulous, Louie Culture and Kulcha Knox.
