KINGSTON, Jamaica – West Indies’ powerful batting all-rounder Andre Russell is reportedly on the verge of retiring from international cricket.
Andre RussellAccording to ESPNcricinfo, the 37-year-old Jamaican is expected to make the announcement sometime today.
It is being reported that Russell’s farewell games will be the first two T20Is against Australia, which will be played in his homeland.
That first match will bowl off on Sunday, with the second T20I to be played on Tuesday, both at Sabina Park.
If Russell does retire, he will become the second West Indian T20 cricketer to do so in the space of just over a month, following in the footsteps of Nicholas Pooran.
Russell has played 84 T20Is for the West Indies, scoring 1078 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 163.08. As a bowler he has taken 61 wickets at an economy rate of 9.30.
He has also played 54 One Day Internationals and a solitary Test match.
Russell was a part of the victorious West Indies squads when they won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016.
