Congratulations League Champions! The League of Women Voters of Florida

To the best people we know, Look yourself in the mirror and say, "Job well done!" The League of Women Voters of Florida is proud today! We are proud to be a part of the dedicated grassroots organizations that worked so hard reach out to over 1.1 million Floridians who signed petitions to place on the ballot the reinstatement of the right to vote to ex-felons! Today is a day of celebration for all citizens of Florida!

LWVThis was accomplished by League members and many citizens talking with other citizens over the coffee table, after church, in synagogues, at the library, before football games, in offices, and in all places where Floridians live and work. Over 1.1 million petition signers have shown that they want the right to vote to be returned to returning citizens as a badge of honor and an open invitation to enjoy a fundamental and powerful civic duty and responsibility.

Many groups have leaned in to make this momentous day possible, and one of the leading groups is the League of Women Voters of Florida! For many long years, many League members worked every day to make this a reality, and over six months ago at our state Convention, the entire state League voted that that all Leagues and all members make this effort their number one priority.

Our gratitude and praise goes out to all of our League reinstatement team leaders and all League members for their setting up educational talks at hot topics, creating PowerPoints, making brochures, fact sheets, buttons, posters, manning tables at fairs, and for enthusiastically reaching out to strangers to invite them to be a part of this powerful demonstration of democracy.

Through all of these efforts, the League has helped to light the fire across the state and we have helped the voice of Floridians to be heard — the amendment will be placed on the November ballot as Amendment 4. #FloridaFor4

We are so proud of the efforts of our dedicated members and reinstatement team leaders for all of the calls, the conferences, and the meetings that we held so that we could better share the winning message that people deserve second chances and redemption, and restoration should win the day!

Congratulations to League members! Congratulations to all the citizens of the state of Florida!

The second part of our journey begins NOW with educating voters on this amendment through our Speakers Bureau, social media, mainstream media, and grassroots networking. This isn’t our first citizen initiative that we will make a success! We know we can do this!

And in November 2018 we will all have the amazing opportunity to vote for this amendment to our Florida Constitution and give returning citizens the right to vote!
