Haitians Battle Each Other For South Florida Congressional Seat |

Four Haitian-born candidates are among nine Democrats fighting to win the open seat of South Florida Congressman Kendrick Meek.
The four, attorney Phillip Brutus, advocate Marleine Bastien, nurse
Yolly Roberson and doctor Rudy Moise, will be facing-off against each
other and the other five contenders, according to the Associated Press,
a move that does not augur well for a Haitian win.

EARLY AND ABSENTEE VOTING DEADLINES APROACH |

The
Miami-Dade Elections Department strives to make voting as convenient as
possible for all voters to increase their participation in every
election. As such, the Department reminds voters there are three ways
to vote: early voting, absentee voting, and of course voting on
Election Day, August 24, 2010 at their assigned precinct.
The Early Voting period runs through Sunday, August 22nd at 20 Early
Voting locations. Sites and hours are available by calling 3-1-1 or
going on the Department’s website.

host a congressional forum to give the community an opportunity to hear
the candidates running for Congress in District 17. Candidates will

MIAMI-DADE ELECTIONS PUTS VOTING EQUIPMENT TO THE TEST FOR AUGUST 24TH PRIMARY ELECTION |

The
Miami-Dade County Elections Department will be conducting a thorough
examination of its voting equipment in preparation for the upcoming
August 24 Primary Election.
“Prior to each
and every election, we thoroughly test our equipment by replicating
Election Day conditions,” said Supervisor of Elections Lester Sola.
“This is just one of the many extensive efforts we undertake to ensure
that the voting equipment is ready for use.”

Katie Edwards Posts Impressive Fundraising Quarter |

Katie Edwards, a Democratic candidate for State House District 119, outraised her Republican opponent for the third consecutive fundraising cycle. A Tea Party and an NPA candidate lag far behind in fund raising. The contest to replace term-limited Republican, Juan C. Zapata, will be decided during the November 2nd General Election. This is Edwards' first bid for public office, while Republican Frank Artiles has run and lost three times before. |
