New N.Y. driver’s license facilitates travel to Caribbean, Canada, Mexico

An enhanced New York State driver’s license will allow travelers to the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico to re-enter the United States via land or sea without a passport.

Officials last month said that the license will comply with U.S. federal rules that go into effect June 1, 2009 requiring all Americans returning to the U.S. from these countries to have a passport. The license will be offered to residents of New York effective Sept. 16.
